Content marketing works best when you have a specific audience in mind, and you have a solution to their problem. It can be delivered as words (text), video, images or sound. But, regardless of how pretty you can make the media, the message is the hook. And without a hook, you’re just feeding the fish. That’s great if you have a boat and something with bubbles to drink – but it’s bad if it’s business.
The most important question you should start with is ‘what problem am I solving for my customers?’ Even if you’re a non-profit, you need to connect donors to the needy. Remembering that we are all human, the partnering question, or how the audience sees your efforts, is ‘what’s in it for me?’
When you find that simple sentence that lives between those two ways of seeing the same thing, you have a message. And content marketing, or storytelling as it’s been known since history began, is an effective way to deliver the message with your hook ready to connect to the right person.
